All DFC programs positively transform the lives of those impacted by diabetes through the power of community. Our organization provides year-round recreational programs that build confidence, optimism, a supportive community, and the leaders of tomorrow.
Camp Morris
Camp Morris is the DFC’s flagship program. We are North Carolina’s largest residential diabetes summer camp and serve approximately 200 campers annually! Kids and teens living with diabetes will be welcomed to YMCA Camp Hanes in June. During the week, campers will experience an independent camp program that is chock-full of excitement, friendship, teachable moments, and opportunities to be challenged by choice.
Teen Retreat
Balancing diabetes management with the desire to fit in and build independence can be challenging. We understand that teenagers with diabetes often feel isolated, frustrated, and overwhelmed.
Our retreat is specifically designed to address these unique challenges. Through engaging workshops and fun activities, we help teens build confidence, learn to manage diabetes independently, and navigate the complexities of relationships and social pressures. Additionally, we provide ample opportunities for socializing and building friendships with peers who understand their journey.
Family Retreat
This event offers a unique opportunity for families of children living with diabetes, including grandparents and siblings, to share the camp experience and build lasting memories.
During the retreat, children engage in fun camp activities throughout the day, while parents participate in communal learning opportunities tailored for them. This structure allows parents to connect and network with others who understand their experiences, fostering a sense of community and creating a reliable support system for years to come.
Camp to Community
Camp to Community, organizes, supports, and hosts community-based camp days across North Carolina. These one-day events provide children living with type 1 diabetes and their families with fun, laughter, education, and community connection through recreational programming. The activities are designed to boost confidence, resilience, and independence.
