Finding Support and Building Community
Living with type 1 diabetes (T1D) can be challenging for those living with T1D as well as their caregivers. The DFC’s Coffee & Conversation program offers a vital lifeline for caregivers and adults with T1D, by providing a supportive space to connect, learn, and grow.
What to Expect:
- Peer Support: Connect with other parents and caregivers navigating the complexities of T1D. Share experiences, offer encouragement, and build lasting friendships.
- Expert Guidance: Gain valuable insights from healthcare professionals, educators, and other experts on topics like:
- Insurance and Financial Planning: Navigating healthcare costs, understanding insurance coverage, and exploring financial assistance options.
- Nutrition and Exercise: Developing healthy eating habits, incorporating physical activity into daily routines, and understanding the impact of diet and exercise on blood sugar levels.
- Mental Health and Well-being: Addressing the emotional and mental health challenges associated with T1D for both children and caregivers.
- School Support: Advocating for your child’s needs at school, navigating 504 plans, and ensuring a supportive learning environment.
- Resource Sharing: Discover valuable community resources, including local support groups, financial assistance programs, and educational materials.
