Mental Health Resources

A T1D journey is about managing the fluctuations in blood sugar and the emotional and mental impacts of 24/7 management and monitoring. Here are some great resources to help your family navigate the mental and emotional effects of T1D.

Psychology Today - is a great resource to help you find a mental health provider in your area.

Finding Smiles Coaching - was founded by Anna Sabino, a certified diabetes care and education specialist with a master’s in social work. She knows the emotional and mental impact of T1D firsthand, as she has lived with T1D since kindergarten. She now supports families through private virtual coaching and educational workshops.

Childcare Resources

All For One Cares uses an online platform, where families can find, schedule, and pay diabetes caregivers for their services, such as in-home care for children and adults. Help with diabetes care gives families the freedom to work or take some personal time without concern. Our diabetes caregivers offer various services such as Hourly Care, Overnight Care, Diabetes Equipment Support, and Custom Services. We also offer educational sessions for family members, caregivers, and school teachers to learn more about diabetes and diabetes management.

JDRF can help you stay connected to the T1D community — by supporting each other and sharing vital information and resources. There are so many ways for you to help, stay in touch remotely and continue driving life-changing breakthroughs in type 1 diabetes (T1D) treatments and therapies.

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) protects children whose disability impairs their academic performance. It requires that those children be given a “free, appropriate public education.” Qualification depends on how T1D affects the student’s ability to learn.

If a student qualifies, they have the right to develop an Individualized Education Program (IEP) with their school. An IEP is similar to a Section 504, though it also includes specific measures to address the child’s academic performance, special education needs and other related services.
